She Is “Just” A Woman?

She is a woman,

How can she have opinions,

Why does she need education,

Why should she demand respect,

How dare she challenge their hypocrisy,

How naive is she to dream,

Why should she retort,

Why should she live?

No, She is wrong

She is to blame,

For his infidelity,

For his impotency,

For their poverty,

For everything that went wrong.

It is obviously her doing,

Because he could only bring good luck,

He is a man

And he is God’s greatest creation.

Here, “Culprit” and “Victim”,

Are synonymous,

Her mother had taught her that.

The word “Why” was erased

From her dictionary,

Come on, She is a woman,

She had no business using it.

She is just a commodity

To be used and abused

She is just a sex toy

Whose emotions don’t matter

She is just a glorified servant

Who happens to be the mother of his children

That is the way of the society,

And being a woman,

She has no right to challenge it

It is after all their culture

Nobody can fault that.

She is never seen as a person

They adorn her with delightful labels

She will always be – A Daughter,

A Sister or A Mother

Never just a woman.

Because, Heaven forbid!

Giving her equal footing,

Now that’s just too much.

      1. I know! Isn’t it amazing to discover that another person views the world just like you do? And its even better if they don’t, because then you get a fresh pair of eyes to look at the world! 🙂

Honestly, I’d only respect a person when they are able to hold a conversation for 10 minutes without wavering or digressing from the point. Sorry if I’ve been too blunt! :p 🙂

      2. Yes, it is! Being able to a have a real conversation and even maybe a disagreement is great. Being open to other peoples’ opinions and views makes you open minded, and if you learn something new that’s even better. I totally agree! It’s fine. If it’s one thing I appreciate it’s honesty. 🙂

      3. That may be because you are open for discussion without any kind of digressing from the point. Most of the time it is mirror effect in life, plus you are so smart and may be people like your company. It is “likes attract”.

  1. The sad thing about this piece of writing is that in most countries (I would suggest all countries), it is true! Some countries are clearly more open to woman than others but I do not know of one where they literally have equal opportunities with men. Times are changing but it is frustratingly slow.

    1. I agree. And here, to people like me, its unbearable. Some days I just feel like we are actually moving backwards into oblivion.
The irony is that patriarchy is perpetrated, encouraged and popularised by women! (At least, that’s the truth in India as of today). Sickening.

  2. WOW.. Again.. Really. That was amazing. I think women are equal to men, if not better. I’ve written something along these lines too. Like you mentioned, it’s hard to find people who think the same way. And I’m happy I could find another soul. If you would be kind enough to read, I would be ever so grateful. It may not be as good as all of your work, but I endeavor to be better. Thanks. 🙂
